Risk Profiling Software for SEBI Investment AdvisersFinuro lets you build your own risk questionnaire, have clients complete it online and store each client's risk profile on their record. SEBI's Investment Adviser Regulations require risk profiling before advice, and Finuro keeps the answers, scores and dates in one place. ![]() RISK PROFILING What can you do with Finuro's risk profiling?Questions, scoring and records you control, built into client onboarding. Your own questionnaireWrite the questions and answer options your compliance policy calls for, and change them as your policy changes. Online assessmentClients answer the questionnaire on your portal during onboarding or whenever you ask them to update it. Profile on every clientThe resulting risk profile is saved on the client record, so the advice you give can be matched to it. Import existing profilesBring in risk profiles you already hold for existing clients instead of asking everyone to start over. WHY IT MATTERS Why keep risk profiles in software?A questionnaire in a spreadsheet is easy to lose and hard to prove. Proof of processEach profile is stored with the client's answers and the date, so you can show when and how it was done. Consistent questionsEvery client answers the same approved questionnaire, not a version edited for one meeting. Easy refreshesAsk clients to update their profile online when their situation changes, without another meeting. Next to the adviceThe profile sits on the same record as the portfolios and advice you give, so suitability is easy to check. How risk profiling worksStep 1 Set up questionsAdd your risk questions and the options clients can choose from. Step 2 Client completes itThe client answers online as part of onboarding or when you request a refresh. Step 3 Profile is recordedFinuro stores the answers and the resulting profile with the date it was taken. Step 4 Use it in adviceSee the profile on the client record whenever you prepare advice or a model portfolio. |
Who uses risk profiling?
Risk profiling matters most to SEBI-registered investment advisers, whose advice must suit each client, and to research firms that offer model portfolios or products with very different risk levels. It is also useful for research analysts who want to steer clients toward the right plan instead of the most expensive one.
What SEBI expects
The SEBI (Investment Advisers) Regulations require advisers to assess each client's risk profile and make sure advice is suitable for it, and to keep records of how that assessment was done. The details are set in the regulations and later circulars, so check the current text; what any rule needs in practice is a consistent questionnaire, the client's answers, the outcome and the date.
How risk profiling works inside Finuro
Risk questions and options
You write the risk questions and the options for each, so the assessment reflects your own compliance policy rather than a generic template. Questions can be updated as your policy changes, and every change is recorded in the audit log.
Risk profiles
Define the risk profiles your firm uses, for example conservative, moderate or aggressive, and keep each client's resulting profile and answers on their record.
Part of the onboarding sequence
Risk assessment can be a step in the onboarding sequence for any product, placed before payment or e-sign so no client starts without a profile. Clients can also open the risk assessment page later to refresh it.
Importing existing profiles
If you already hold risk profiles for current clients, import them instead of asking everyone to repeat the questionnaire when you move to Finuro.
Finuro compared with paper or spreadsheet risk profiling
| Need | Paper or spreadsheet | With Finuro |
|---|---|---|
| Same questions for everyone | Easy to drift between versions | One questionnaire you control |
| Proof of when it was done | Depends on file dates | Answers and profile stored with the date |
| Refresh when circumstances change | New meeting or new form | Client updates it online |
| Check suitability before advice | Look up a separate file | Profile shown on the client record |
Using risk profiles with model portfolios and consultations
Because the profile sits on the client record, you can check it before recommending a model portfolio or preparing for a paid consultation. That keeps suitability checks part of daily work instead of a yearly clean-up.
Common use cases
An investment adviser onboarding new clients
Risk assessment is a required step before payment for every advisory plan, so no client is advised without a profile, and the date of each assessment is on record.
Refreshing profiles for existing clients
When a client's income or goals change, you ask them to retake the questionnaire online. Their updated profile is saved on their record with the date.
Moving from another platform
Import the risk profiles you already hold, so current clients keep their profile and only new clients complete the questionnaire.
